MORE THAN A FARM.

IT'S A BIO-DIVERSE MASTERPIECE

OPENING IN 2026

The centerpiece of Westrow is a 2-acre, sustainable, working farm with a lively orchard. This productive amenity will supply our restaurants, residents and our farmer’s market with fresh food and beautiful views of seasonal change.

Growing season at the farm will occur year-round, using organic/regenerative practices to grow a multitude of vegetables, fruits and herbs.  Additionally, we will partner with the best and brightest local vendors to expand our offerings, including those specializing in honey.

About the Farmer

Tommie Burch grew up farming in the Southeast, primarily on tobacco farms in Georgia. Thinking conventional row-cropping was how all food was grown, he got a Bachelor's Degree in Turfgrass Management from UGA to work on golf courses. On a stent doing conservation work with Americorps out West, he heard of something called small-scale organic farming, and has been hooked ever since. Since 2016, he's worked on educational farms, on production farms, as a garden/farm consultant, and most recently building/running his own 1/2 acre market farm in Tucson, AZ.

Tommie brings a unique skillset to urban farms, having designed and operated farms in urban neighborhoods throughout the country.  We look forward to showcasing his skillsets in the community in 2026 as well as helping grow the network of local North Carolina farmers.

One Planet Living

One Planet Living is an international sustainability initiative based on the idea that we all need to live within the limits of one planet’s natural resources. We take those words to heart. In fact, The River District is the first One Planet Living community in the southeast and only the 3rd in the US.
